Lanzarote

Situated just 79 miles off the west coast of Africa is Lanzarote, the most eastern of the Canary Islands. The island enjoys an all year round mild dry climate with an average rainfall of just 5.5 inches.

The islands landscape has been sculpted by past eruptions during the 18th and 19th century, and much of it remains unchanged. Even though there has been a considerable amount of volcanic activity over the past decades, the island still has some outstanding white beaches.

The wealth of diversity on the island ensures that there is something for everyone. The west coast is famous for It's glorious all year round sun, which can be enjoyed on one of the many secluded beaches, whereas a venture into the bigger cities paints a different picture.

Just half an hour from the airport is Puerto del Carmen, a vibrant city with over a hundred bars and clubs that stay open all night long. By day many of the cities are a mass with shoppers reaping the advantages of tax free goods in the many boutiques and upper market shops.

Lanzarote is also famous for its water-sports, notably Famara Beach which boasts an idea coast for windsurfing and snorkelling.

Lanzarote doesn't have the best public transport network, and for this reason hiring a car may be the best option if you want to get a true taste of the island.

In most cases you will collect your car from Arrecife airport and make your way to your accommodation. With your own car you'll easily be able to make your way to places like Timanfaya National Park and the concert hall built within a volcanic formation situated in the town of Jamoes del Agua.

One of the other major reasons to opt for hiring a car in Lanzarote is the cheap cost of petrol and the quality of roads throughout the island are generally quite high.

When driving in an unfamiliar country it is of course advised that through research and advice is sought prior to setting off.
